TSC Virtual Academy - Parent/Guardian Information
Updated automatically every 5 minutes

The Tippecanoe School Corporation believes in the importance of onsite instruction. However, we also recognize there are some students who, for medical reasons or other mitigating factors, may not be able to return to school. Therefore, a virtual learning option is necessary and will be offered to students and families. The below information is current as of Thursday, July 23 and is subject to change.

Those choosing to enroll in the TSC VIrtual Academy are committing to a minimum of one semester of coursework. If the TSC moves to remote learning for all students at any time during the semester, students enrolled in the virtual option will remain in the virtual option. Parents/guardians must enroll their child/children in the Virtual Academy through TSC’s online registration by Wednesday, July 29 at 11:59 pm. Any enrollments after this date will be added to a wait list.

A technology device (laptop, desktop, Chromebook, iPad) will be required to participate in the virtual option. Additionally, home internet access is highly recommended. Students in grades 6-12 are issued a Chromebook as part of the TSC’s 1 to 1 program. For students in grades K-5, parents/guardians will have the option to request a school-issued device for their child to use for either virtual learning or remote learning. For K-5 students attending school in-person, devices will only be sent home when remote learning instances arise.

Grades K–5

Elementary students who enroll in the Virtual Academy will be scheduled into a classroom at their home school and will receive instruction from a TSC licensed teacher. Virtual students within a school and grade level will be scheduled in the same classroom(s). The number of in-person students vs. virtual students in the classroom is dependent upon the number of virtual students in each grade level at each school. Students who receive a modified instructional program and/or services due to a specialized academic classification (EL, High Ability, Section 504, Special Education) will continue to receive appropriate support.

The virtual curriculum will be comparable to the in-person curriculum, although delivery methods and learning tasks may be modified. Virtual instruction will focus on essential standards in each core subject area (English/Language Arts, Math, science, and Social studies). In addition, readings, practice exercises and other activities may be given. Students will be engaged in learning for 1.5-2.5 hours daily.

Grades 6–8

Middle School students who enroll in the Virtual Academy will receive an online curriculum (PLATO Courseware) supervised by TSC licensed teachers. Students will be enrolled in a total of 5 courses (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies). The virtual curriculum will consist of online readings and practice exercises, with instruction and assignments including other activities such as video tutorials and projects. The time needed to complete coursework varies for each student but should be comparable to requirements for in-person learning. Students who receive a modified instructional program and/or services due to a specialized academic classification (EL, High Ability, Section 504, Special Education) will continue to receive appropriate support. Some courses will not be available in the virtual program. A list of the available middle school virtual courses can be found here.

Grades 9–12

High School students who enroll in the Virtual Academy will receive an online curriculum (PLATO Courseware) facilitated by TSC licensed teachers. Students will be enrolled in a minimum of 5 courses (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and one elective). Students in the Virtual Academy will be expected to work through the online curriculum independently; students must be highly motivated and self-sufficient for the best chance of success. Virtual Academy students will receive a schedule based upon their current Fall 2020 schedule. If adjustments need to be made, the school will contact the student.
